Ayu Tsukimiya (月宮 あゆ Tsukimiya Ayu?) is a teenage girl with a childlike appearance, who remembers Yuichi Aizawa after she bumps into him while running from a taiyaki vendor. She had met Yuichi seven years prior and she might be able to shed some light on his memory loss.

Ayu's theme is Hidamari no Machi ("A Sunny City").

Ayu is a seventeen-year-old girl who is about the same age as Yuichi Aizawa, although she is initially perceived by Yuichi to be much younger due to her short stature.

For most of the series, Ayu is seen wearing a large tan duffel coat over a sweater and shorts and is the only Kanon character seen to regularly don mittens. On her feet, she wears brown argyle socks and snow boots. She is immediately recognizable by her red hairband, and her small backpack, which has two attached wings on either side. In later appearances, though, she is occasionally seen without her coat or mittens. Seven years before Yuichi returns, Ayu is shown wearing a pink sweater, a short skirt, and a large white bow in her hair, which is grown-out slightly longer than when Ayu is seventeen.

Ayu is very childish, but sweet, once being described by Yuichi's aunt as "one big bundle of energy". She is also very clumsy and easily frightened; the mere mention of spirits being able to make her shriek.

Ayu comes off as somewhat impulsive, instinctively tackling Yuichi when she sees him, but later on, she limits herself to simple taps on his back.

She is also shown to be slightly oblivious about commonly known things, for example, her not knowing what a mobile phone is. Despite this, however, she still enjoys learning new things.

Although she usually acts very cheerful, she's extremely determined to find an item that she has lost and becomes distressed whenever she fails to find it.

  • Ayu's surname Tsukimiya means "moon" (月) (tsuki) and "temple, shrine, palace" (宮) (miya).

  • Ayu is left-handed.
  • Ayu is the shortest of the main characters.
